The Diocese

The territory of the Diocese of Massa Carrara – Pontremoli extends over 1,186 square kilometers and is divided into 6 vicariates: Aulla, Carrara, Fivizzano, Massa, Pontremoli, Villafranca in Lunigiana. The Diocese of Massa Carrara – Pontremoli was born from the suppression and merger of the Diocese of Massa and the Diocese of Pontremoli, with the decree of the Congregation of Bishops of 23 February 1988. It is made up of the territories of the 17 Municipalities of the Province of Massa Carrara and a Municipality of Province of Parma. The Diocese includes 244 parishes, is a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Pisa and is part of the ecclesiastical region of Tuscany.
